Chapter 05
Hosting Events
Gather together and spread the word
The power of personal events
Chances are your donor base will have questions about legacy gifts. The best way to provide answers is by hosting events where you can have one-on-one conversations about the importance of leaving a lasting legacy through planned giving. Your event doesn’t have to be a formal affair. Keep it casual by hosting it on-site in a large meeting room or church sanctuary. Include food and beverages or consider making it a luncheon or dinner event. Below are other key takeaways we’ve learned over the years of managing events for our partners.
The legacy giving event checklist
- Schedule your event for 40-60 minutes, leaving 10-15 minutes for Q&A.
- Prepare a short presentation that walks through your key talking points.
- Prepare enough handouts and forms for attendees and their friends and family.
- Invite previous donors and ask them to tell their personal giving back story.
Managing your guest list
There are multiple way to manage your list of attendees. Include a form on your website that connects to a back-end database. For a simpler option, use readily available tools like SignUpGenius or low-cost online services like Evite.
Let TPF host your next workshop
Over the decades, TPF has run hundreds of workshops for thousands of attendees. We’d be happy to manage and host your next event — free of charge. Led by experienced TPF Relationship Managers, a TPF Legacy Giving Workshop includes:
- An overview of planned giving and its long-lasting impact.
- Introduction of giving options, including tax benefits.
